Existing house rear extension and renovation
Like Badger House, this small home in Geebung was full of strange little renovations and alterations over many years, and the result was a group of poky rooms completely disconnect from each other and the large rear yard. The worst offenders were the front entry which was an infilled verandah, and the rear which was a tacked on media room only accessible through a narrow hall off the kitchen and past the laundry.
Invilla tackled these two elements first and then changed the internal layout so it all flowed from front to back. The front now features a proper entry stair, entry deck and double gable over which leads into a living room and main hall which feeds all the bedrooms down the sides of the house. A couple of the existing bedrooms could remain, and the main bathroom was refurbished in place, which ended up saving a lot of money. The awkward dining and kitchen was converted into a new master suite with walk-in and ensuite.
At the rear the low roofed media room was removed and replaced with an open plan living/dining/kitchen with butlers pantry and additional separate media room. This space opens up to a new deck which is positioned to take advantage of the existing terraced garden and lawn. A small bridge connects the deck to the existing landscaped stairs, so there is now a clean line of circulation from the front door all the way to the back fence, an enormous change from the maze of the previous layout.
