New homes and office
Situated in picturesque Tamborine Mountain surrounded by valleys, waterways and rainforests, this project was a blank canvas to create something truly special for the clients. Their brief was to create multiple dwellings over this large parcel of land to take advantage of views of the valley, the lush rainforest behind and surrounding a man made dam that they planned to have a series of bridges over to make the house appear to float.
The aesthetic brief was a modern farmhouse, reminiscent of Scandinavian design and modernism. Many of the design and layout decisions were based on what they liked about their current house in Canberra, as well as a budget that focused on efficiency and buildability. Having camped on the site for many weeks and spending time roaming and maintaining the site, the clients have an intimate relationship with their site and this helped evolve and refine the design to maximise every aspect, view, arrangement of rooms, placement of dwellings and aesthetics.
After a few different concepts and a bit of time with council and the town planners (due to various overlays) the design above was settled on with a main house nestled on the side of the dam in front of the rainforest, a small office nearby connected by a bridge, and another dwelling near the front of the property to act as a guest house and to live in while the main house is under construction.
Due to start in 2020 and continue over several stages.
